Boating Accidents *
In General
The area in which we live is full of boating – both private and commercial boats and ships. There is a traditional Maritime Law that provides a remedy for injuries suffered in boating injuries that occur on bodies of water connected to “navigable waters” that lead to other states.
Tim Green, the Maritime Expert
One of our firm members – Tim Green – has vast experience in Maritime Law. Green practiced for years in the ports of Ohio, where he represented seamen – both in Longshore disputes (similar to worker’s compensation for shore workers) and in Seamen disputes (for personal injuries for seamen onboard).
Edmund Fitzgerald
Green represented 7 families during the Edmund Fitzgerald hearings. The resolution of these cases is confidential.
Maritime leg amputation: $3,000,000
The client’s leg was amputated by a conveyor on a Great Lakes vessel.
Pontoon boat on Grand Traverse Bay – Broken leg – $65,000 settlement
When another pleasure boat collided with a pontoon boat, the client’s leg was broken. Interestingly, there was a dispute over the jurisdiction of the case, because the collision on the water was on the theoretical “county line” between Leelanau and Grand Traverse.
* These on-the-water cases are chosen from many more, to illustrate some of the variety of issues we have dealt with.
