Fees and Costs
Confidential, Free Consultation
New clients often say, “I never thought I would need a lawyer.” Now you need time to explain the facts to your attorney and to understand your options – time to develop a trust relationship. At our first meeting, we listen to you and we try to explain the law clearly. Due to recent changes in Michigan law, many victims are being denied access to the courts. If your case involves serious injury or serious economic loss, we try our best to define your legal rights and analyze your chance of success. There is no charge for this meeting and advice.
Contingent Fees for Clients
A contingent fee agreement means we do not charge you a fee unless you receive a financial settlement or verdict. The amount of the contingent fee is normally governed by Michigan ethics rules. (We may offer hourly rates by agreement.)
Referral Fees for Attorneys
Under Michigan’s Rules of Professional Conduct, we pay referral fees to attorneys who refer cases to us. We are happy to provide referring attorneys references on request.
Costs of Litigation
When you are seriously injured, you may not be able to pay costs in advance. We have the resources to advance costs for investigation, evaluation and court. The usual expenses on a case include the costs of obtaining medical records, the cost of sworn statements from witness and doctors, investigation, and experts, if appropriate. We advance these costs.
